Patron Facing (Public Interface) Features
Filter Collections by collecting area
Users can now filter results by ‘Collecting Area’. This facet is available in the sidebar from the Digital Collections portal page as well as when searching across the repository.
Metadata Only View
The goal of this feature is to enable the public to discover metadata (assuming the metadata is not restricted) regardless of whether the public can view an item or its derivatives.
What will the public see when an item is metadata only?
Instead of the item, the user will see a message about restricted access. Users will be prompted to login to see if they are authorized to view the item (see below).
If the user is not authorized, they will see a message prompting them to contact the Library and/or center the item is associated with. In the example below, the Archive of Documentary Arts link directs the user to this form: https://Ask Us - LibAnswers
Search full text when available in CONTENTdm
Users can now link directly from a DDR collection to its full text counterpart in CONTENTdm (when available). This link is present on the collection portal page, individual item pages, and search results pages within a collection with a full text counterpart:
Users can also link directly from a DDR item to a full text version in CONTENTdm from the new ‘Search Inside’ dropdown menu. ‘View Full Text & Images’ links to the item page in CONTENTdm, and ‘Searchable PDF’ links to the PDF generated and hosted by CONTENTdm.
Technical metadata in the Public Interface
Component level technical metadata that is created upon ingest is now viewable in the public interface.
Note that in the Digital Collections interface of DDR (any urls that includes “/dc/” are in the Digital Collections portion of DDR), component level metadata typically does not display so end users will not see this technical metadata on DC objects.
Library Staff Login
When viewing an object in the public interface, click the “library staff login” button (in the footer of all webpages) and you will be directed to the same object in the admin UI.
This feature is helpful if you want to download the preservation master of a particular item that you are viewing in the public interface.
Embedded item view indicates when captions/transcript is available
When sharing A/V items from DDR on other websites (use the “share” button on an item page), the embedded view of an item now indicates that a transcript is present on the DDR interface.
Bulk Download Requests
Patrons can request a bulk download of collection objects (files) and collection metadata (csv) using the “request bulk download” link on collection landing pages and item pages.
Users will be directed to a qualtrics form where they can specify their request.
Requests will go to repositoryhelp@duke.edu and then directed to the appropriate personnel to vet requests when necessary. Collections that do not have rights restrictions can be queued for patron download.
Administrative Features
Make items, collections, and components nonpublishable in batch through metadata upload or one-by-one via admin interface
Export collection, item, and component level checksums
Metadata export includes now includes ‘parent_id’ and ‘original_filename’
Apply roles (to collections, items or components) in a batch process
BMP, GIF, and PNG files not display in the image viewer
URLs for still images now route through DDR access controls
